Learn About the History of Aviation at the Glenn L Martin Aviation Museum

Middle River locals may be familiar with the Martin Company, which started building aircraft in 1912, and was contributing parts to the nation’s space program by the early 1960s. Today, the Glenn L Martin Aviation Museum documents the history of this company and its impact on American aviation.

There’s quite a lot to see here, especially for the modest admission price of just $3, so be sure to allow plenty of time for your visit. The museum is located at the Martin State Airport, and when you visit a docent will drive you out onto the airport runway, where you’ll be able to get out and explore a collection of historic planes. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, either, as the docents are highly knowledgeable and well-versed in both the history and mechanics of the aircraft you’ll be seeing. After you return from the tarmac, be sure to spend some time in the museum itself, where you’ll find displays documenting the technological achievements of early American aviation, as well as plenty of historical photos, models, and more.
